Catawba County Jail Mugshots
Catawba County publishes booking-photo access through the official Who's In Jail roster. The system is not a separate mugshot gallery, and the research did not find a daily booking-photo feed for released people. The public table has a Picture column. When a photo is available, the row has a View link that opens a pop-up image endpoint. When a person has multiple charges, the first row in the row group is usually the place to check for the photo link, while later continuation rows may leave the photo and name fields blank.
The Catawba County Sheriff's Office operates the county jail and the current roster. The photo is only one part of the booking record. The same row group can show name, date confined, address, age, charge, bond amount, court date, court docket, writ or reason, and arresting or holding agency. Those fields give context for the photo and should be read before assuming what the charge or custody status means.
The live Catawba County jail roster screenshot below shows the Picture column and the table fields that appear beside current booking records.
Use the photo link only as part of the current jail record. The court case may later change the charge, status, or disposition.
Find Catawba County Mugshots
The official path for Catawba County jail mugshots is the county roster, not a commercial publishing site. Because the interface is a sortable table, the practical method is to search within the page, identify the person, then check the Picture column. If there is no View link, do not assume the jail never took a photo. The photo may be unavailable in the public table, affected by the person's status, missing from a continuation row, or subject to a release limit.
- Open the Catawba County Who's In Jail roster.
- Use browser find or sort the Inmate Name column to locate the person.
- Read the full row group because multiple charges may be split across several rows.
- Check the Picture column on the first row of the group and select View if a link is present.
- If the photo is not online or the person was released, call Sheriff's Records at 828-465-8300 for the public-record request path.
The jail information line, 828-465-8999, is the better channel for current custody status. The records line is the better channel for older booking records, copies, and release or redaction questions.
Catawba County Booking Photo Fields
A Catawba County booking photo is published next to jail-table fields, not inside a full public profile page. That design matters because the photo and the charges may be split across a row group. A continuation row may add another charge, bond amount, docket, court date, or agency while leaving the person fields blank. Read the photo row and all related continuation rows together.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Picture | A View link when a public booking photo is available in the current roster. |
| Name | Inmate name in a last-name-first format. |
| Date Confined | The date the person entered Catawba County jail custody. |
| Age and Address | Age in years and a public address field; full DOB is not shown. |
| Charges | Booking or hold language, sometimes abbreviated or spread across multiple rows. |
| Bond and Court Fields | Bond amount, court date, and docket when public and available. |
| WRIT and Agency | Hold reason, writ text, arresting agency, or outside-agency context. |
Are Catawba County Mugshots Public?
North Carolina law supports public access to many records made or received by public agencies, including photographs and electronic records. It also treats criminal investigation records differently from ordinary public records. That means a booking photo can be public-record material, but an agency may still redact or withhold information based on active investigation, juvenile status, confidentiality, court order, expunction, or another legal limit. Catawba County's roster shows photo links when the sheriff publishes them in the current table.
Key Statutes:
North Carolina G.S. 15A-502 covers law-enforcement photographs and fingerprints for people arrested or committed to detention facilities.
North Carolina G.S. 132-1 defines public records broadly, including photographs and electronic data from public agencies.
North Carolina G.S. 132-1.4 explains why criminal investigation records may be released, redacted, or withheld.
Catawba Mugshots After Release
No official Catawba County page in the research stated how long a booking photo remains available after release. The inspected roster appears to be a current-jail roster, and the jail FAQ says inmates are added to the Who's In Jail page as they are booked. That is not the same as a promise that released-person photos stay online for a set number of hours or days. Avoid using the roster as a historical mugshot archive.
What is and is not public: The public roster may show a current booking photo, name, age, charge, bond, court date, docket, writ, and agency. It does not show a full mugshot history, side-view images, full DOB, housing unit, medical data, officer notes, or sealed and expunged material.
Request Catawba County Booking Photos
If the photo is not on the current roster, the official local fallback is the Sheriff's Records Division. The research did not locate a detailed public online form with fee amounts, ID rules, or turnaround times for booking-photo requests. Start with the records phone line at 828-465-8300 or in-person contact at the sheriff's office. Ask whether the photo is available as a public record, whether redactions apply, whether there is a copy fee, and whether the record is affected by a court order, expunction, juvenile status, or active-investigation restriction.
Use precise details when asking for a record. Include the person's name, date confined if known, approximate arrest date, case or docket number if visible, and the agency shown on the roster. Do not send money, original IDs, or irreplaceable documents through inmate mail to request a record. Records requests and inmate mail are separate processes.
The Sheriff's Records Division page is the official public routing point for law-enforcement records questions.
That records channel is the right fallback for official photo availability, corrections, and older booking-record questions.
Catawba Mugshot Removal
The research did not find an official Catawba County mugshot-removal page for dismissal, acquittal, release, or expunction. A request to correct or remove an official booking photo should be routed to the originating agency or through the court order process that changes public access to the underlying record. North Carolina expunction law may remove certain eligible records from ordinary public access after a court order, but an expunction is not the same thing as asking a private publisher to delete a copy.
For the court side of record clearing, use official court channels and the expunction process where eligible. The court-record path is separate from jail booking-photo display, so a user may need to check the court case, the sheriff records channel, and any agency that created the record. The Catawba County court records after jail arrest page explains the difference between charges, convictions, sealed records, and expunction.
Federal and State Photo Limits
Federal and immigration locator systems do not work like the Catawba County booking-photo roster. The Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator identifies federal custody records, but it is not a federal mugshot feed. The ICE Online Detainee Locator System searches immigration detention status by A-Number and country or biographical data, but it is not a booking-photo gallery. The U.S. Marshals may be involved in federal pretrial custody, yet public mugshot access is limited.
State prison photos are also separate from Catawba County jail mugshots. The NC DAC offender search may show public offender photos in some state records, but it is a prison and supervision locator. It is not the source for county jail booking-photo pop-ups. If a person moved from the Catawba County jail to state prison, use the DAC locator for current prison status and the sheriff records process for older local booking-photo questions.
